My granddaughter Brooklyn is the girl on the right with her friend Paige. This photo was taken in Positano, Italy two summers ago. They were both 16 years old. Brooklyn is now a freshmen at Berkeley and one of the joys of my life.
She was three years old in this video and she froze as soon as she looked up and saw the huge audience of at least a thousand parents and grandparents. We think she was looking for her mom and dad. I remember leaning over and whispering in my son’s ear, “I hope you didn’t spend too much on these lessons.”
This video reminds me that when we look outside ourselves for approval and recognition instead of looking within, we can't go very far.
